“Lt. Dan Band: For The Common Good” isn’t a film made by Gary Sinise. Rather, through diverse interviews and video footage of band tours and personal appearances, it details the journey of Mr. Sinise and his compatriots into their dedicated service to active and veteran members of the United States armed services and their families, to the first responders of 911 and their families, as well as to the families of those servicemen and servicewomen and first responders who have given their lives to preserve the way the rest of us in the free world, especially in the United States of America, [should] live ours.

While “Lt. Dan Band: For The Common Good” is a film about service, it has, as its foundation, gratitude. In fact, gratitude pervades its every frame as we learn that it is the catalyst leading to service “for the common good” by the Lt. Dan Band. And it reminds us that the common factor at the core of our military personnel’s and first responders’ voluntary willingness to lay down their lives “for the common good,” is developed from the gratitude they feel for the gift of freedom. After viewing “Lt. Dan Band: For The Common Good,” don’t expect to ever again think of gratitude without associating it with service. Do expect to understand that service isn’t always glamorous and it isn’t necessarily “tireless.” On the contrary, people in service, especially our military and first responders are human and they get tired, very tired; they get wet, soaked to the bone; they get cold, chilled to the core; they hunger and they thirst, and they know loneliness intimately. The difference is that they push through such discomforts, secure in their self-abnegation. When we, as civilian citizens, push through such discomforts in service to these heroes and their families, we come through better friends, better neighbors, better people, better Americans.

On the evening that my wife and I sat down together to watch “Lt. Dan Band: For The Common Good,” we knew that we were in for something that would touch our hearts; what we didn’t expect was the way it would touch our lives. We’ve always felt blessed to be able to give through monetary donations, and we’ll continue to give in this way, but this film motivated us to do more; to get out and serve, in whatever capacity we are needed, to those who serve us and to their families who also sacrifice so much. To do so will be both an expression of our gratitude to our heroes as well as service “for the common good.”

Yesterday I received my copy of Gary’s movie “Lt. Dan Band, For The Common Good.” AWESOME! You will cry, laugh and at the end, you will feel so proud to be an American! As a Marine Mom, and a Blue Star Mother, I have had the privilege of meeting some wonderful, brave men and women in uniform. I have also met Gary several times, and he truly is down to earth and one of the most caring US Patriots I have had the pleasure of knowing! Because of him and his wonderful band members, they have brought smiles to so many of our men and women far from home and their loved ones! He has a heart of gold and cares for each and every one of them and their families. This movie is a must! And also his other movie “On the Road in Iraq With Our Troops and Gary Sinise,” another must have movie! Both are very uplifting. Gary is one person who “gets it.” Thank God we have people like him and his wonderful band! God Bless them! And God Bless our American Heroes!

This movie is so good, so moving. I have had the privilege of meeting Gary and he is just such a great guy, the way he supports the Troops is inspiring, it makes me want to do more for the Troops. Every time I see one of our brave men or women in uniform I go up to them and thank them for serving, it is such a small thing and yet I can tell it means so much to them. I hope that everyone who watches this movie will start to do the same, not everyone can do as much as Gary Sinise, but everyone can do something to let our Troops know that we care and they are not forgotten.
God bless our Troops and God bless America!

This movie was very well put together and touched so many issues that other media seem to ignore. I have been a Gary Sinise fan for a long time, and had the pleasure and privilege of meeting him during one of his USO tours in Germany. This movie helped highlight exactly how much he and his band do and sacrifice to help support the troops, and as someone who lost a friend in the war I cannot express how much that means to me. Thank you guys for making such a wonderful film for us. The clips were incredibly well timed, and the history of each aspect of the Lt. Dan Band was well laid out during the film. I can’t wait to own the dvd and share it with the rest of my family. Never Forgotten!

$3.99 for 72 hour viewing window puts the idea of a “bargain” to shame! The film is a roller coaster of emotions and shows Gary as not only this generation’s Bob Hope USO representative but also reminds me of the easygoing yet focused actor characteristics of Jimmy Stewart or Gary Cooper. Kudos to the Floras for filming the documentary on how the Lt. Dan Band got its start and how it grew to a band that entertained the troops yet kept its core element of keeping that sense of fun of making music together. This film also sheds light on other groups Gary supports such as Operation Snowball, Operation Iraqi Children that the audience can support. Bravo to everyone involved in this effort and I’m glad to see that this part of Hollywood strongly supports the troops and builds up the United States of America concept of liberty and freedom!

I watched the movie over the weekend and I couldn’t help what all the emotions I felt on 911. At the time I was the charge nurse at Va hospital in Boston and I remember the phone call that we were on lock down and the diaster plan was in place. I live right outside Boston in small town called Avon-which that whole day and days after were so very quiet since the Logan was only 20 minutes away. The air space was so quiet for days!! Gary this documentary was absolutely wonderful. You have a great soul and a great heart, don’t ever let that go. You and your band need to come to the Boston area and play-there are so many military bases around and I know personally that the vets I do take care will appreciate it. I already pre-order the video even before I saw the movie. Please keep up the great work you do, its so hard at times what words can’t express what one truly feels.

    Fantastic!

The opening of this film is worth the price paid.

Just finished watching the movie online after hearing an interview with Gary on the Mike Gallahager radio show. This movie was such an emotional experience. The images throughout the film were great reminders for those of us who have been living our lives normally for the past ten years that there is a reason for this war, and that there are many who have sacrificed their lives to protect the rest of us and this nation. To find the words to explain the feeling I experienced throughout watching this is difficult. It is just one of those film that you tell someone you just have to see, and after you do, you will understand.

For me, I wanted more. More of Gary’s interaction in Iraq with the troops, more concert interaction with the troops, more the children receiving school supplies, more of the Snowball Express. Just plain more of this awesome experience.

Already signed up for the DVD …

Thank you to all who were involved in bringing this experience to light, and reminding all who get a chance to view this that there is still much that is happening and much who can do to help.

I first heard about the Lt. Dan Band Movie in an interview with Gary on the Janine Turner Show. After watching the movie, the only way to describe Gary Sinise is as Major Troy Gilbert did, “That guy is a PATRIOT.”

Every American should see this movie. It is a great reminder of the tragedy of 9/11 and of the sacrifice made by so many to protect the American dream. The movie also is a call to service for all of us. There are many organizations, such as the USO, that do great things for those in need. A select few have the strength and courage to serve on the front lines, but many of us can answer the call of duty in other ways.

PEOPLE, FOR THE COMMON GOOD, GET INVOLVED!!!

  9. John July 10, 2011

The people of the band are “military” in every sense on the word. You receive so much love because of all the love you give.
Thank you for the reminder of why I joined and was proud to serve. Making America safe for the “LTD” and the others who have served after me, both in the military, first responders, the families of the fallen, and special needs people supporters.
I believe every child should have to see this movie instead of all the stupid stuff the have to endure from the lame educational establishment. This movie put back the feeling of gratefulness for those who gave some and some who gave all.
The people in Congress should see this movie for a whole day just to understand why they are less than what they think they are.

I’m a humble veteran and was truly moved by the victory of this film, at times nail-bitting, fast and fluid and yet soft and true to the ethos of our firefighters, police, all the first responders on 9/11 and their families. The Blue Star & Gold Star Families who know the spirit of service is the spirit of our troops, military and veterans. That transition is a strength best shared with others, sometimes quickly or in my case sometimes slowly, grasping at straws before returning fully, home. The Lt Dan Band, for a Common Good reflected the passion of USO tours and philanthropic events, the power of volunteers and reminded me in it’s songs and direction we are all one family, tuned and connected deeply in the echos, drum’s, tempos; some up and some downbeats, yes even those crusty hard-nosed Drill Instructors at Ft Lenord Wood TRADOC, Mo. … the final sum, together we protect the gracenotes of our freedom. Thank you Lt Dan Band, staff and support for all you continue to do. vr. jim

Jonathan Flora captures the essense of a great American, Gary Sinise. Some say Gary is the new Bob Hope. With all due respect to Bob — Gary is in a league of his own, and the Troops know it. Two Thumbs up for The Lt. Dan Band: For the Common Good

  12. Ludwina Dautovic July 8, 2011

I had the privilege of interviewing director Jonathan Flora on my radio show Red Tent Radio this week. I’ve just finished watching Lt Dan Band: For the Common Good and it was a compelling and moving film. Congratulations to all the band members, the producers, director and all people behind the scenes who helped put this project together. I’d also like to thank the many men and women who inspired the work of Gary Sinise. It’s the courage of people like you who give me the gift of freedom. I will continue to promote the film in any way I can. Well done. Ludwina Dautovic

I watched the movie on July 4 and then that evening I was able to see the Lt. Dan Band perform live. Wow, I am almost completely overwhelmed by so many emotions. The passion, dedication, and energy of the band and what they seek to accomplish is phenomenal. The movie portrays that very well. It also makes it very personal. What else can I say but that it is amazing!

  20. Kathy July 5, 2011

A huge thank you to all of the people that work so hard to support our military and first responders. I was humbled by all that they do. Made me feel bad for sitting on my butt and not doing more.

Amazing, Inspirational, Moving!!!! I walked away from this movie with so many emotions but the most prominent was the desire to do something, and get involved, either by spreading the word to every person I know and asking them to watch this movie or finding organizations that I can volunteer or donate to. Gary Sinise and his band are true patriots and we need more people like them. Thank you Lt Dan Band for all that you are doing for our enlisted and their families!

This film is not only entertaining and inspiring….it’s also an experiance! And it’s an experiance that will challenge you to action. You will be changed after watching this film, and you’ll feel the spirit of freedom and liberty welling up inside of you, causing you to get out there and ‘do something’. Thank you Gary and Jonathan for doing your part to inspire each of us to a life of service and sacrifice.

What a wonderful film and tribute to our Service men and woman. Gary Sinise is a true patriot and a shining example of how we all should remember our Military every day.
This film should be shown in every classroom in America to remind the students what true Patriotism is!
Thank you Mr. Sinise for this inspiring film and God Bless you and your family.

  24. Ed Morrows July 4, 2011

This is an incredible movie about an amazing group of people. Gary Sinise is “a true patriot” as stated by the widow of a US soldier. He gives so much of himself for our soldiers and first responders. Each and every member of the Lt Dan Band are to be thanked for what they do for our military and are inspirations for all of us. This is a must see movie for every American. God bless each member of the band.

We should all volunteer our time in some way for those that serve and for their families. This movie makes me proud to be an American.

  25. Diane Martinez July 4, 2011

This movie was awe inspiring! I have pre-ordered the DVD so I can watch it again. I have already been appreciative of Gary Sinese’s support of our troops & their families. There were time when it brought tears to my eyes. It was great to see who the rest of the Lt Dan Band were. My thanks to all of you. I have no one in the military. My brother was in Korea (peace time) back in the 80s. It’s as close as I am personally. I am very aware that we have troops fighting overseas. I have not forgotten 911 & I remember thge President saying that this would be a long war, not like traditional wars we have fought in the past. Every soldier, every sailor are heroes in my eyes! Their families are special heroes, esp the sons & daughters. Thank you Gary & your Lt Dan bandmembers for your service to our military. God bless all of you!!

  26. Matt July 4, 2011

WOW! This is FANTASTIC! What a great reminder of how much our military and first responders sacrifice for all of us. Gary Sinise is a National Treasure. Excellent job by everyone involved. I really didn’t think I’d want to watch a 96 minute movie on my computer on Independence Day, but after about 2 minutes I was hooked and watched the whole thing. Twice. It is moving beyond words. I know it has inspired me to dig a lot deeper and find ways that I can help our men and women in uniform. God Bless our service people and God Bless the United States of America!

  27. Vicki Allison July 4, 2011

Watching this movie makes me want to do something to support our troops. I love and appreciate what Gary has sacrificed to make this possible.
I will be actively looking for ways to support and show my love for the troops and their familes.

This film reminded me that there is still a war going on a great sacrifices are being made. Very touching.

My Uncle, Hal Espinosa was a trumpet player for Les Brown and His Band of Renown. He went to many USO tours in Vietnam with Bob Hope. I have seen many pictures that he took while he was there, but he does not talk about it too much. It reminds me of many of those Christmas’s is sacrified.

Thanks for making this movie possible.

$3.99… 1 hour 36 minutes 34 seconds… That’s not asking too much for some who gave all!! Wonderfully crafted… extremely touching… I laughed… I cried (a lot)!! GOD bless those who serve in or out of uniform (Gary)… and yes, you are truly a Patriot!! Thank you for this experience!!

  31. Cliff Post July 4, 2011

This was a awesome documentary, it shows a group of people lead by Gary Sinese doing a wonderful Project. They entertain the troops and pay respect to the New York Fire & Police for their great response to 9/11. They give freely of their time and talent and show what true American Patriots they all are. Congratulations on a job well done.

What a great way to celebrate July 4th! I loved Gary for his roles in various films and in CSY NY. But this takes the prize! Everyone was just terrific, and so moving were so many scenes, I was brought to tears numerous times.
Thank you for all you’re doing,Gary. I know this will inspire many more to your great cause.
As for the USO, I’m happy to have been a contributer and will continue to be.
I will definitely spread the word. Much continued success in all you do.

Awesome! Thank you for your hard work for the troops. Got be the best Documentary. I agree with Joe T. The film maker did captured Mr. Sinise’s Passion for his work for the troops. The film shows that its not a one man mission and everyone needs to get out and support our troops.

  37. Gary B July 4, 2011

Thank you all who made this movie. What a wonderful mission you all have taken up. Mr. Sinese, and his band only proves again, you just never know who or where another outstanding American will step forward to offer their service to defend and protect our home The United States of America. Thank you all again

  38. Megan Megale July 3, 2011

OKAY HOLD ON TO YOUR HAT!! When you see this exceptional movie, it will blow you away and force you to ask yourself, “what skill set do I have to help.” Gary, you humble me, and to the wonderful Flora’s, you have renewed for me the meaning of entertainment. So infrequently is there a film like this that is so motivating it is a call to action. I am the mother of two teenagers, and I cannot think of a better way to spend quality time watching this with them in hopes they have that AHA MOMENT. These brave young men and women, allow me the luxury of walking through Manhattan every day, not giving one second of thought, I am unsafe. Thank you, my words pale to the actions of both Gary and the soldiers.

GET IT< SHARE IT, AND TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW, This should not be missed.

  39. Joe T July 2, 2011

I had a chance to watch this film at a private screening and I can say I was moved to tears. The amount of work and passion Gary puts into this cause should be praised at all level. The film maker did an amazing job at capturing the essence of Gary’s mission, heart and compassion for our men and woman in uniform. When the film ended I found myself feeling like I could do much more to support our troops. Semper Fi
